Free trees available for city residents

Tree pickupThe city is giving away free trees again: the Trees for Neighborhoods project is underway, and they still have several conifers that need loving homes.

According to the reLeaf program, Seattle residents can apply for up to four free trees for their yard of planting strip. Residents will receive the trees, water bags, mulch, and planting and care instructions. “While many of this year’s small ornamentals have sold out, you can still apply for one of five gorgeous conifers that will add beauty and grace to your yard,” according to the Seattle reLeaf Program.

From reLeaf:

“If you have the space, consider planting one of three native conifers we’re offering this year: the grand fir, western hemlock, or western redcedar. For small, narrow spaces, plant the graceful Serbian spruce. Consider the deciduous bald cypress as a street or yard tree and enjoy its changing color. Bald cypresses are excellent urban trees because of their adaptability, even winning the Society of Municipal Arborists’ Tree of the Year award!”
