West Woodland parents still frustrated with temporary portable classroom

West Woodland Elementary has outgrown its building, and parents are still frustrated that the district hasn’t added the portable classrooms for the start of the school year. My Ballard reader David Guthrie sent us the following picture of the current temporary portable unit that will be used as a classroom until the larger portables arrive.

“It is nothing more than a construction job trailer, and it’s not even big enough for the teacher to put tables in for students to sit at, yet it has been hard wired into the school for electrical, phone and wifi, while at the same time taking up half of the teacher parking lot,” Guthrie writes, frustrated that the school district chose this solution as opposed to speeding up the arrival of full portable classrooms.

We have contacted Seattle Public Schools for an update on the arrival of the new classrooms; their original estimate for delivery was September 19, and they expect it to be fully operational by the 21st.
