Nickelsville filed a permit last week to open the homeless encampment in Ballard, located at 2826 NW Market St. The permit is anticipated to be approved quickly and the first authorized campers planning to begin to move in this week.

As reported today by Shane Harms of the Ballard News Tribune, “Nickelsville social worker, David Delagado, said that they are already planning to move five tiny houses to the lot and set up a security station. About 45 people will live in the camp, some of which, around 25, are current Nickelsville residents. New residents apply for residency through a screening process and then adhere to strict camp rules.”

While there has already been reports of noise complaints, as well as fear of crime and other concerns from neighbors, Nickelsville does not anticipate this being an issue in Ballard.
