The Ballard Natural Drainage Systems crew started excavating for weirs in the bioretention cells (rain gardens) last week.
The weirs act like small dams across the cell and help control stormwater flow and reduce erosion.
For the next few weeks, crews will continue working in the rain garden locations along NW 75th St, 19th Ave NW, 17th Ave NW and near the intersection of NW 77th St and 18th Ave NW.
Construction will commence next month in the area nearby Loyal Heights Elementary School along 26th Avenue Northwest and NW 77th St.
Anticipated impacts for residents include:
- Increased construction traffic and noise
- Parking restrictions during work hours
- Temporary traffic lane closures
- Temporary sidewalk closures
