Yesterday afternoon Ballard Locks visitors paid witness to a rare sight as a section of the old SR 520 Bridge floated past.
Pontoon E from the old bridge was floated from Lake Washington to Lake Union and out through the Ballard Locks to its new home.

According to WSDOT, a third-party buyer has purchased the old bridge pontoons; and they may be used as docks, wharfs and artificial reefs.
