Ghost Light seeks submissions for 11th annual Battle of the Bards

The team at Ghost Light Theatricals is seeking submissions for their 11th annual Battle of the Bards that is set for February 2017.

Battle of the Bards is their annual FUNdraiser where three plays enter and one show leaves. The shows will be performed on February 17 and 18 and the show that gains the most votes during Battle of the Bards will get a full production in GLT’s 2017-18 season.

Battle of the Bards is a competition between three different shows based on a classic story. The definition of classic is up for interpretation, though this year the team is not accepting versions of fairy tales.

From each show the audience will see a 20 minute fully produced excerpt.

“This isn’t just a reading! We want the audience and the participants to have a good time,” says the team from Ghost Light.

In order to be considered applicants must submit a 500 word treatment of their idea in addition to any existing script (full scripts are not necessary).

Treatments are due September 30, and will be reviewed by the company and voted on. The chosen teams will find out by October 31st. Note: applicants do not need a full creative team in order to submit. Ghost Light can connect willing directors and writers.

There is no stipend for Battle of the Bards, but there is a stipend for artists involved with full productions. The winning team will receive stipends during their full production.
