The team at Ballard Elks is planning their Second Annual Frock Swap women’s clothing exchange event next month and they are inviting locals to get involved.
Last year the event raised over $2000 for Mary’s Place and a truckload of clothing for those in need. All the folks who came to swap also went home with lots of great new clothing for their wardrobes.
This year’s event will be benefiting Mary’s Place and the WA State Elks “Second Chances” Scholarship fund, a program for women who have come out of an abusive environment and are trying to get a second chance in life. Leftover clothing will be going to Mary’s Place and Ruby Room again, as appropriate.
The team will accept women’s clothing, accessories, shoes and costumes. No underwear, socks, bathing suits, stained or torn items, please. No men’s or children’s wear will be accepted. Donations will start being accepted at the Lodge (6411 Seaview Ave NW) after Labor Day.
The actual Frock Swap event will take place on Sunday, October 9, from 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Ballard Elks Lodge. Admission to the event is $10 with clothing donation, $20 without a clothing donation, $30 for 30 minute early admission (with or without clothing donation). There is no limit to what attendees can take home.
The event will also include a raffle and a silent auction for gift certificates and items donated by local businesses like Brimmer & Heeltap, Baleen, Sasquatch Books, Roux, Liberté Beauty, Domino Beauty Boutique, Ladywell Spa, Firefly Tutoring, Salmon Bay Paddle, just to name a few.
This year, clothing donations for the swap will not be accepted on the day of the event. Any items that are donated day of will be donated directly to Mary’s Place.
