Local theater company Ghost Light Theatricals is calling for production submissions for their annual Battle of the Bards fundraiser competition in early 2018. Three productions will be chosen for 12th annual battle, which will be held on Feb. 9th and 10th. The performance that gains the most votes during the battle will get a full production in Ghost Light Theatrical’s 2018-2019 season.
The organizers from the theater company say they’re looking for submissions for “classic” stories, which they say is open to interpretation (no fairy tales, though). “From each show the audience will see a 20-minute fully produced excerpt. This isn’t just a reading! We want the audience and the participants to have a good time!” the theater company tells My Ballard.
To apply, submit a 500-word treatment of your idea as well as any existing script (full scripts are not necessary). Submissions are due October 10th, and will be reviewed and voted on by the company, with the finalists chosen by October 31st. Submissions and questions should be directed to Asa Fager at thequakerbaker@gmail.com. Alternatively, if you’re interested in directing, send your resume and cover letter to Fager.
(Notes: The director and writer of a piece cannot be the same person, unless it is ensemble-generated. You don’t need a full creative team in order to submit. We can connect willing directors and writers.)
