The chef behind Japanese restaurant Kamonegi in Fremont has announced plans to open a sake bar right next door.
The sake bar will be called Hannyatou, which owner Mutsuko Soma told the Seattle Met will be inspired by the “Edo-period of drinking at a liquor store” — think sake served in wooden cups (masu) and to-go sake in growlers.
Hannyatou will take over the space formerly occupied by Lama G’s Cafe, in the same building as Kamonegi. With 28 seats, patrons will be able to order sake flights or buy from the retail section. The bar will serve a limited menu of around a dozen plates, inspired by the fermentation system Soma plans to build in the backyard, which will fuel both restaurants, according to the Seattle Met.
The sake bar should be open at 1060 N 39th St. by March — you can follow Hannyatou’s progress on Facebook or sign up for their newsletter on their website.
