A new bar is in the works for 24th Ave NW: Sri Lankan-inspired Rupee is expected to open later this year.
Manolin owners Joe Sundberg and Rachel Johnson are behind the new bar, going in at 6307 24th Ave NW. Sundberg told the Seattle Met that the menu will be reminiscent of southern Indian food: “Spicy, coconut heavy, and lots of seafood.”
The head chef at Rupee will be Manolin’s Liz Kenyon, who will also be taking over for current Manolin executive chef Alex Barkley. Kenyon will serve as executive chef of both restaurants.
The owners say their new venture is more bar than restaurant, but with small plates inspired by Sri Lankan “short eats”, the Met reports. As the owners post on Instagram, mutton rolls, pani puri, fried chicken, eggplant, and paratha are some of the potentials for Rupee’s developing menu.
No word on when they’ll open, but they’re in the throes of a big renovation. You can follow their progress on Instagram, and we’ll post an update when we know their opening plans.

That sounds so good. The food looks amazing.
Looks like a great new option!
Ruh-roh, will the Cultural Appropriation Police be raiding this place and fining owners for their whiteness?
What?
I think they are referring to the people that get angry when you do anything related to a culture that isn’t your own.
Wow. That “live edge” countertop is really ‘edgy’ these days. Sure hope that’s FSC certified tropical hardwood.
How exotic. Now you don’t have to go all the way to Redmond.
