The remaking of Sunset Hill is still underway, with Baker’s set to open in the former Walter’s location at the end of the month.
Baker’s owner Brian Claudio Smith says the new bar and restaurant, “merges the quality of a high-end cocktail joint with the comfort of a neighborhood watering hole.” The bar is named for Charles H. Baker, Jr., “culinary and cocktail writer, globetrotter, bon vivant and drinking partner to Hemingway and Faulkner.”
The space, at 6408 32nd Ave NW, will feature 20 seats wrapped around a bar and exposed kitchen. In early summer, they’ll open their hidden backyard garden patio with another 30 seats. “Baker’s will cater to neighborhood residents seeking a local hangout as well as cocktail aficionados in search of the perfect drink,” they write in a statement about the opening.
The food menu will be headed up by Matt Janke of Matt’s in the Market fame, with help from Cody Westerfield of Lecosho. They’ll be serving “Northwest flavors in the form of salads, tartines, charcuterie, oysters, and small plates.”
Craft cocktails ad biodynamic wines will dominate the drink offerings, and of course, a few draft beers from local breweries.

Do the $20 cocktails come with a twist of dog dander?
Welcome back, Uncle Buck. Please try to control yourself this time.
You have some pretty strange fantasies.
No, lil bucky, but they will be served with a bit of Seattle is Dying.
Can’t wait!
I wish them luck and hope they do well, but I do really miss Walter’s.
If this place is half the wonderful surprise that Samara has turned out to be, we’re in luck!
Looking forward to supporting a budding new local business, congrats and success to you!
