Update: Seattle Fire says the fire started in an, “old, decommissioned ambulance-type vehicle,” and that just one fire truck was enough to contain and extinguish the blaze.
Original: A converted camper caught fire near the Ballard Locks after an explosion this morning just after 11am.
Ballard resident Bo Saxbe was at the Locks when and his daughter heard the explosion and saw the smoke that followed. “Very pungent burnt plastic smell,” he says, “and the explosion/heat knocked down the fencing.”
Saxbe said he believes no one was hurt in the explosion in what looks like a converted ambulance. He heard from bystanders that the owner was working on the vehicle, left it running, and wasn’t around when it caught fire.
Seattle Fire was on scene and putting out the blaze when Saxbe arrived. We have a call out to Seattle Fire and will update if there’s new information.
All photos by Bo Saxbe
great.
anyone that thinks having these barely-to completely (un) road worthy vehicles littering the city has some serious problems. i wonder if it had current tabs, emission test, insurance?
will the owner of the vehicle pay for damages to the truck next to it?
Hold on, El Grunion, let me put on my Trump hat, and then I’ll answer…
No, no, no and no.
So the president also is living in what LEFT of you brains too eh? WTF does he have to do with this and what your selected libtards have done TO Seattle pal? It’s apparent that lowering the bar is your scheme. Thanks to the ACLU and Obama this crap goes on. Do us all a favor and take off your communist hat. Please move to Venezuela and take Sean Penn and Danny Glover with you.
We all know the answer. Amazing that it took almost 15 minutes before Trump was brought into the conversation.
For the liberals who come from the East Coast it’s sometimes confusing that Libertarians refer to themselves as Liberals in Seattle. Whereas liberal cities on the East Coast that ban living in cars and tents in favor of putting people in actual housing where they are safe and have access to well funded programs and health care, liberals on the West Coast don’t want to infringe on the right of people to live wherever they want and do whatever they want (again they are Libertarians).
Unfortunately this comes with the daily consequences to Seattle residents of assault, fires, theft, unusable public spaces, needles pretty much everywhere, exploding camper vans, etc. However the real people who suffer from Seattle liberals are the homeless population who have nation leading rates of murder, suicide, rape, sexual assault, assault, theft, etc. We have successfully created living conditions in Seattle that are worse than the living conditions in areas where we send Peace Corps volunteers (yes I was one).
So for liberals who moved to Seattle this may seem crazy, and when you voice your opinions in support of actually helping the homeless and are compared to Trump you may be scratching your head. Just remember in Seattle; Seattle liberal = libertarian, liberal = conservative republican Trump Supporter, conservative = not relevant as there are none in Seattle.
I am a Seattle liberal on your side, Southeasterner. Read more than the “Trump” part of my message. It’s sarcasm for every stupid liberal who believes that because I want the trashy drug addicts off my street that I am a Trump supporter.
Thinks what? Your poorly punctuated sentence lacks a verb. Just an FYI.
Ah good the passive aggressive grammar correction crew is checking in.
And of course the sad and ignorant little troll chimed in.
Hard to make sentient arguments when you lack proper sentence structure, my dude. Makes you look dumb. Just a heads up.
No, he’ll get a new puppy and lot’s of likes from the complete idiots living in Ballard.
Imagine if someone’s precious dog baby was injured or killed in this explosion.
Blast you, Rat! YOU were supposed to be watching that batch of meth!
First thought that came to mind when I first saw this article.
Logic in Absurdistan:
>Plastic straws bad
>syringes, junkie camp trash good
>cars (climate change, pollution) VERY bad
>abandoned junkie hobo cars and RV toilet dumping good
>safe spaces for women
>core neighborhoods increasingly unseemly, sometimes dangerous
>big govt VERY good
>cops and policing VERY bad, you bigot
>obsessive, passive aggressive micro management of behavior (remove shoes in house, recycling fines, no jokes, no physical contact, no smoking/fragrances, CENSORSHIP) good
>let entire city become trash dump filled with roving lunatics behaving like animals who do whatever they want because empathy, you bigot
>sugar bad
>safe injection sites (aka “harm reduction) good
>xenophobia bad
>calling Russians evil good
>guns bad
>only cops should have guns (good), but cops bad and Trump is Hitler, so Hitler would have all the guns.
>labor and working people abused and exploited by ruthless capitalists bad
>devaluing labor by importing cheap, desperate workers good
>housing shortage VERY bad
>doubling USA population to compete for housing and dwindling, soon to be automated jobs good
Am I missing anything here?
I’m sorry to laugh at your pain but, remove shoes in house, no physical contact, no jokes, safe spaces for women, sugar, and xenophobia being on your list really cracked me up. It says so much about you and the ‘troubles’ you face on the daily.
Ah I forget the double standard with women’s rights vis a vis Islam but that one is so obvious that it will be fun watching the fireworks between your imported fundamentalists and the rainbow brigade.
Freja, you’re smart enough to see the insane contradictions in current “woke” dogma. Don’t play dumb. Of all cities, Seattle SHOULD be a safe space for all the would-be Superhero ladies, but you would-be “leaders of the future” have made the place unsafe because you can’t/won’t process why lawlessness on a citywide scale is bad for your own safety.
See also, Borders.
This kind of insanity is behind the mess, and the religious devotion of progressives to their double think is on par with any fundamentalism.
You guys are Creationists or Flat Earthers at this point, with same disregard of facts that fly in the face of your worldview.
You aren’t really a “people person” are you.
