The vegan potato place on NW 65th St, Papas Hot Potatoes, is closing today, and the owners are putting it up for sale.
Chris Blanco, previous owner of farm-to-table restaurant Stock, opened Papas in October after treating a major health issue by switching to a vegan diet. Now, he and his business partner have chosen to sell.
“Like the Mighty Icarus we flew too close to the Spud based Sun,” they write on their website. Changing life circumstances are also a factor, as Blanco tells My Ballard.
“My wife and I have a baby on the way this Fall, so I’ll be working a day job with a structured schedule for now so I can focus on being a new parent,” he says.
“Running a small business like our neighborhood cafe has been rewarding and wonderful in many ways. We’re super grateful to all of our supporters and fans of our food.”
They’re closing Papas after today (Friday) to prepare the restaurant for sale to a new owner.
Well, that’s a shame. Ate their food a couple times, it did not disappoint, but I understand how a vegan-only joint can struggle to maintain a steady customer base.
Hey good idea: paint it black and put a mural up of same tatted up flapper girl.
Another woke biz bites the dust.
Hey fun fact: women in the Roaring 20’s were skinny.
I like the mural. I liked the restaurant. Variety is good.
Fun fact: It’s time for you to get a new shtick, your current one is stale and unfunny.
CH – what the heck are you talking about? Do you live in a vacuum?
I am very sorry to hear this, although their menu wasn’t something I could fit into the food my physicians want me to eat. But I wish they could have made a success of it – I hope Mr Blanco and his wife have a healthy, happy newborn.

I’m so sad to hear this. I just discovered Papa’s a few weeks ago and really liked their food. Due to medical issues, I can’t eat at most restaurants anymore—I was excited to finally have an option. Sending best wishes to the owners.
