With limited parking spots at Discovery Park beach, the parks department has decided to implement a free shuttle for visitors.
The free shuttle will run from 10am to 5:30pm on Saturdays and Sundays through September 1st.
The King County Wastewater Treatment Facility has provided 12 parking spaces for visitors at the beach, which can only be used via a permitting system. Seattle Parks and Recreation staff will distribute parking permits for these spaces from the Discovery Park Visitor Center (3801 Discovery Park Blvd) on Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 6pm.
The permits are only available for those with children under the age of 6, those over the age of 62, and people who aren’t physically able to walk to the beach due to injury, illness, or other physical condition. Each permit is valid for three hours, and then must be returned to the Visitor Center.
During operational hours, the shuttle will pick up and drop off riders at the Visitors Center, the north parking lot bus stop, and in the beach parking lot.
Or, if you choose to walk in, the trail to the beach is 1.5 miles each way from any of the three parking lots in Discovery Park.

12 parking spots eh? Not very progressive. Imagine that, here in Seattle. Parking spots are rarer than smokers.
