A movie featuring Mira Sorvino and Tom Skerritt will be filming at Ristorante Picolinos in Sunset Hill today.
Picolinos tells My Ballard that the two co-stars will be at the restaurant from 11am to midnight filming a dinner scene for their upcoming movie, East of the Mountains.
The film is an adaptation of the book by the same name by David Guterson (of Snow Falling on Cedars fame), who also co-wrote the screenplay. It’s being filmed in various locations around the state, including eastern Washington. The film is being made by the local Heyou Media production company, created by Skerritt, who is a Seattle native.
Here’s the summary about the film, from Guterson on IMDB:
When retired heart surgeon Ben Givens learns that he has terminal cancer, he takes his beloved dog on a final hunt, determined to end his life on his own terms. Ben’s journey, though, takes an unexpected turn, and soon becomes an adventure against which he pits himself with characteristic stoicism, wit, and determination.
Picolinos says streets around the restaurant will stay open, but parking will be restricted for film crew and production vans.
I loved that book. Glad they are making a movie of it. Skerritt will be great as Givens.
It’s a shame that we are such a celebrity obsessed culture. Would be great if people got excited if a famous scientist/philosopher were eating just outside of Ballard.
Bill Nye the Science Guy used to prop up the bar at the old Red Door in Fremont. Famous enough for you?
Well the moderators of this site don’t glorify it. Bill Nye is more of a celebrity than a scientist anyway.
You should really create your own blog where you can tell us all how to be better people and ignore any requests to back up your assertions about any and every subject. I know I’d subscribe.
Bill Nye is NO scientist, rather an an engineer. Go ahead everybody, stick that cool white jacket on and call yourselves a “scientist”. He’s just an act(or) and a tool as well.
Well you are a tool, so I guess you’d know. At least Bill Nye has something to contribute to society, you are just a sad old boring troll.
they said “famous scientist” NOT Fake scientist.
The Red Door was a great pub. I still have a growler from there.
I agree! Reading Q cards and pretending you’re somebody else does ZERO for me.
Once again, Your Trollness, Sunset Hill IS PART OF BALLARD, but you already know that.
elenchos2 -WTF are to posting about? This is a post about a movie being made in Ballard, what are you talking about?
FWIW, “famous” people eat in restaurants in Seattle every day.
LOL. Bill Nye the Science Guy is now trending on MyBallard, thanks to me.
Tom Skerritt is actually a local. I saw him in Ballard once though I don’t think he lives in the neighborhood.
You people are unbelievable!!! Gonna stop reading your toxic comments, so I don’t become a people-hater!!
