Scandinavian furniture store Sparklebarn moving to Ballard

There’s a new Scandinavian home furnishing store in Ballard named Sparklebarn, located at 2611 NW Market St.

Owner Shane Bastian says Sparklebarn specializes in modern mid-century furnishings with a focus on Scandinavian, European, and Pacific Northwest artifacts. He will sell mostly vintage goods, with consignment options and restoration services on personal pieces.

“After about eight years in Fremont and selling online, I had a chance to open this shop in the neighborhood I’ve lived in for the past 20 years,” Bastian tells My Ballard. The store will serve as his workshop for renovations and restorations, plus a photo studio and retail space.

“I’m also hoping to host a monthly spotlight for local artisans and artists to feature their work – whether they are painters, sculptors, glass blowers, quilt makers, dog sweater knitters, or anything like that,” Bastian says.

Sparklebarn is moving to Ballard from their previous location in the Fremont Vintage Mall. They’ll be taking over and renovating an empty space that was once home to Ballard Inflatable Boats, which closed some time ago. They say the shop should be open sometime in February, with hours likely 11am to 6pm, Wednesday through Sunday.

        1. Amen to that one Ballard by Boat!! We have to remember that Ballard has a strong Norwegian heritage, so I welcome with open arms a Scandinavian furniture store! We need to get some of our flavor and identity back! Sorry millenials!!

          1. Please do NOT apologize to any millennials. They get what they deserve and feel is good, for them. My grandma came from the Oslo area in 1889, and today I still live in her home, in what’s LEFT of Ballard. Having hip shops, trendy eateries, and of course plenty of homeless drug addicts means we have arrived. I call it a “mono-culture” chock full of group thinkers.

          2. So, you’re upset that Ballard has grown with the times while you suffer from a failure to launch? I mean, still living in grammy’s house? Don’t you want to carve your own path through life?

          3. You live with your moms mom? Makes sense. You are a loser to the second power.

          4. Please do NOT apologize to any millennials. They get what they deserve and feel is good, for them.

            OK Boomer.

  1. Couldn’t ask for a better location. Hopefully there will be a partnership with the Nordic Heritage museum that will integrate his shop into the museum grounds…maybe even a direct side entrance?
