Good news for when you’re ready to let go of your Christmas tree: the city is offering free tree composting until Jan. 31.
Seattle Public Utilities ask that people place their trees and bundled holiday greens next to their food and yard waste cart on their designated collection day. Apartment buildings are permitted to place two trees next to each bin on their collection day.
SPU also says trees must be cut into lengths of four feet or less, and all decorations must be removed.
If you’d rather not wait until your collection day, you can drop off trees for free at the north or south transfer stations through the end of January. SPU says stations will accept up to three trees per vehicle.
