The 2020 winter and spring racing series put on by Salmon Bay Paddle is kicking off this weekend with a race from Portage Bay to Ballard and back.
The eight-mile race is open to human-powered vessels: rowing, kayaking, and SUPs are all allowed. The race starts at Agua Verde Paddle Club in Portage Bay, heads west through Lake Union to the Ship Canal as far as the Ballard Bridge, the turnaround point. Then, it’s back to Agua Verde to the finish line.
The first race is this Saturday, Jan. 25 — entry costs $35 per person, or $55 for teams of two. On race day, the sign-in table will open at 8:30am, with a safety meeting for participants at 9:30am. The race will start at 10am sharp, with awards just after 12pm.
Following the race, they’ll have Frelard Tamales in the outdoor cabana, courtesy of Agua Verde.
