The large locking chamber of the Ballard Locks will be closed to marine traffic tomorrow (Tuesday, July 7) as crews place equipment for the upcoming extended closure.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers say they plan to close the large lock from 6am to 4pm in order to prepare for the next Stoney Gate Valve replacement project closure, scheduled for Oct. 15 to Dec. 6.
The work later this year will be the third extended closure for the project, and crews will be replacing the final three Stoney Gate Valves. There was a fourth closure scheduled for February 2021, which has been cancelled.
The pedestrian bridge, fish ladder, and gardens are all still closed to visitors for COVID-19 precautions. We’ll update when we learn more about their plan to reopen the area.

The fish latter is, however, still open for the fish. As long as they have a mask on.
