There’s a new burger joint in the former Volterra location on Ballard Ave: Great State Burger opened quietly this week.
The new Ballard spot is the company’s sixth location: the Washington-based chain, co-owned by chef Renee Erickson, makes their patties only with meat from pasture-raised, grass-fed cows. Along with their beef burger options, Great State has a veggie patty made from porcini mushrooms and Dijon mustard.
They also have milkshakes made from Parfait ice cream, and local craft beer (plus Rainier) on the menu.
The building (5411 Ballard Ave) has been vacant since Volterra closed in 2017. Last year, restauranteur Josh Henderson made moves to open Poulet Galore in that location, but abandoned plans because he says it wasn’t financially viable.
Great State is now open seven days per week, from 9am to 9pm. They have both indoor and (heated) outdoor seating, plus to-go options.
