The playground at B.F. Day Elementary School (4020 Fremont Ave N.) is getting a major upgrade.
Construction to renovate the playground is scheduled to start today, with an anticipated opening of summer 2022. The remodel has been in the works since voters approved the project in 2014.
The playground project will replace the play equipment and improve the adjacent picnic area, including replacing the drinking fountain and making accessibility improvements. The theme is “nature play” and the features will include swings, slides, and balancing equipment.
Funding for the project comes from the Seattle Park District, which provides $47 million a year in long-term funding to help address the $267-million major maintenance backlog for Seattle Parks and Recreation.
During construction, the play area and nearby pathways will be closed. Seattle Parks says they will work with the contractor to minimize impact to the school and playfield during construction.
