A new natural skincare company has opened in the middle of Ballard: Blendily has opened at 2206 NW Market St. in the location formerly home to Kick It Boutique.
Founder and chief alchemist Ivy Chuang first opened Blendily—short for “blended splendidly”—in Portland. Chuang started studying botanicals when her daughter was born and began selling her handmade products in a garden shed pop-up in 2014 before opening a brick-and-mortar in northeast Portland.
“In the [seven] years since, I’ve come to know intimately the lifecycle of plants and their sacred healing properties,” Chuang wrote on the Blendily website.
Chuang says Blendily’s stores are “botanic kitchens where bioregional medicinal plants are blended with exotic botanicals to create a spectrum of cosmetic grooming products for selfcare head-to-toe.”
She likens her store to a farm-to-table restaurant, sourcing seasonal plants for her concoctions. Along with bath and body care, Blendily’s offerings include hair care, mother and baby care, and herbal remedies.
“I’ve awakened to the power of botanicals and understand that much of the despair that many people feel is because of a disconnect with the land and climate in their surroundings. I know today, that my life’s work is to build bridges over that disconnect, helping people discover the knowledge that was lost.”
Chuang had envisioned expanding the brand for several years, and spent months finding the right location for her second store in Seattle
“When we opened our first store in Portland, Oregon, the buildout took a total of six months,” Chuang said in a press release about the new store.
“It was a learning experience for me to understand the whole process of designing, permitting, and building. This time, I knew that I did not want to waste any downtime, especially during the Holiday Season, so we moved quickly to open our doors.”
Blendily is now open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding holidays.
