One of the first in-person events to return to Ballard this year will be the annual Norwegian Heritage Day + Tastes of Norway and Leif-to-Leif 5k Fun Run.
The Leif Erikson Lodge (2245 NW 57th St) will host the festivities on Saturday, March 26. The 5k will kick off the celebrations, starting at 9 a.m. The fun run will take participants from the Leif Erikson Lodge to the Leif Erikson statue at Shilshole Bay and back. It’s open to runners of all ages, with ribbons and prizes to be awarded to the top finishers.
All runners will receive Norwegian flags and temporary tattoos for participating. It will cost $20 for adults, $10 for teenagers 13-17 years old, and is free for those under 13. All proceeds will go to the Ballard NW Senior Center. Day-of registration opens at 8 a.m., or you can register online.
The rest of the Norwegian Heritage Day events will happen at the Leif Erikson Lodge. There will be live music in the garage from fiddler Bill Boyd, the Sølje Sisters, Skandia Kapell, and the Six Feet Back Band, and Scandinavian Dancers from the Leikarringen group.
The Taste of Norway will include Pølse with lefse, Scandinavian baked items (cookies, lefse, bløtkake, krumkake), along with coffee and soda.
