94th annual Blessing of the Fleet this Sunday at Fishermen’s Terminal

The yearly sending-off of Seattle’s fishing fleet is coming up this Sunday in Interbay.

Blessing of the Fleet started 94 years ago with the late Pastor O.L. Haavik of Ballard First Lutheran Church. This year’s event—happening Sunday, April 3 at 2 p.m.—will be held in person and led by Pastor Erik R. Wilson Weiberg and Pastor Elise Scott, both of Ballard First Lutheran Church.

The blessing includes thanks and prayers for the fishing community and remembers fishermen who lost their lives at sea. There will also be representatives from local government and the fishing industry to say a few words.

Ballard Lutheran Church says “Ultimo,” captained by Allison Demmert, will represent the North Pacific Fishing Fleet at the ceremony.

The event will be free and open to the public and coffee and cookies will be provided by Chinooks following the service.
