A new pasta restaurant has moved into the former Drunky’s Two Shoe BBQ location at 4105 Leary Way NW.
It’s called Ronette’s Psychedelic Sock Hop, a bar and restaurant serving fresh pasta from the kitchen of Mixtape Pasta. “Opportunity met creativity and a lot of hard work and in 3 weeks we turned a bbq joint into … whatever this is! … a bar with dancing and events and a big patio and fresh pasta,” Ronette’s wrote on Instagram.
Megan Barone is the mastermind behind Mixtape Pasta, which she started as a pop-up in April 2020. “I was schlepping pasta and gear around all over (and was getting very tired of the schlep),” Barone told My Ballard in an email.
So when Ronette’s owners Ben Verellen and Steve Snere of Bar House in Fremont approached Barone in February 2022 and asked her to collaborate on their new concept, she said yes.
“It was an incredible synergy of the best people: even though we’d only met a few times before we’ve become like a family at this point,” Barone said. “We’ve got great food, natural wine (as curated by yours truly), live music, and great vibes.”
Barone is running the kitchen and moved her pasta machines into the space so she can make everything in-house with local grains and produce.
Drunky’s Two Shoe closed in February, but still operates out of White Center.
Ronette’s is open seven days a week from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., with food served until 9 p.m. daily.
