The world’s largest peace torch relay is visiting Ballard today.
The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run is an international torch relay that’s back on the road after pausing for Covid restrictions. This year’s modified route is traveling across the U.S., with stops along the West Coast in Seattle and San Diego.
North Beach Elementary School’s art teacher Izabela Gabrielson organized the visit to her school after following the Peace Run for years. The runners will begin their run on 90th around 8 a.m. and will turn onto 24th Ave NW to head through the south gates of the school to make way to all the North Beach Elementary classrooms.
Spectators can line up against the fence on 90th to watch the team of relay runners before they head into the school for visits and a school-wide presentation.
The Peace Run has traveled to over 160 countries in the 30 years since its inception, and more than 7 million people have participated.
