Kinwell Medical Group, a new approach to primary care in Washington, has opened its two newest locations in Seattle, one in Ballard and the other on Westlake Avenue in South Lake Union. A third Seattle clinic opened on Denny Way in June of this year. The clinics play a critical part in accomplishing the company’s goal of addressing the lack of accessible healthcare in Washington.
Kinwell serves as an exclusive in-network provider for people with Premera Blue Cross or LifeWise Health Plan of Washington insurance, offering a significant reduction in how long patients must wait to see a primary care clinician.
According to the AMN/Merritt Hawkins’ 2022 Survey of Physician Appointment Wait Times, the average wait time for a new patient appointment in the United States is 26 days. In the Seattle area, the average is 28 days. At Kinwell, it is less than 24 hours.
“At Kinwell we believe it’s important to provide everyone with affordable and accessible healthcare options,” said Dr. Mia Wise, chief medical officer. “We take a holistic approach to health and consider factors such as diet, exercise and behavioral health to ensure we are delivering tailored and personalized care. We look forward to establishing connections with members of the Ballard and Westlake communities and are excited to expand our reach.”
A 2021 study published in Medical Care reports that primary care physicians spend an average of 18 minutes with their patients. The study’s authors wrote, “Primary care offices’ overuse of brief appointment slots may lead to appointment overrun, increasing wait time for patients and overburdening providers.”
At Kinwell, clinicians take their time with patients. Moreover, the physicians at the new Ballard and Westlake locations will focus on building meaningful, long-term connections with them to ensure that everyone who walks through the doors will receive high-quality care. The clinics have treatment suites designed for patient comfort, blending the latest in technology with thoughtful details that create a welcoming experience for guests.
Kinwell’s clinics provide primary care and behavioral health services, in-person and telehealth visits, online appointment scheduling and reduced wait times. Expanded primary care services treat everyday ailments as well as manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and depression. Kinwell patients have free access to the MyChart app, through which they can make appointments, manage billing and contact their healthcare team.
Kinwell recently opened additional locations in Washington — in Olympia, Poulsbo, Yakima, Lynnwood, Seattle (on Denny Way) and Mill Creek — as part of an ongoing effort to serve communities throughout the state that need more primary care options. A clinic in Redmond is set to open before the end of the year.
Kinwell’s Westlake clinic is located at 224 Westlake Ave. N, Suite 100, and its Ballard location is at 1416 NW 46th St., Suite 7. Patients can schedule a visit online at KinwellHealth.com, or by calling 833-411-KINW (5469).
