Next week, crews will begin work on a vent shaft for the Ship Canal Water Quality Project that will reduce lanes along Leary Way NW.
The Seattle Public Utilities’ Ship Canal Water Quality Project is the effort that spent the last two years digging a tunnel from Ballard to Wallingford. The 2.7-mile-long tunnel will hold polluted stormwater (from rain) and sewage overflow, reducing the amount of wastewater entering the Ship Canal.
Starting Monday, August 14, crews will close the two southern lanes on Leary Way NW between NW 39th St and 1st Ave NW. They’ll shift traffic to the northernmost lanes to maintain one traffic lane in each direction. The configuration will be in place 24 hours daily for four to six weeks.
SPU says lane reductions will not impact access to local businesses.
