A Ballard woman has launched a new knitwear brand called Command Knitwear.
Christine Dennett founded Command Knitwear after researching materials and processes that “leave a lighter footprint on the world.” Dennett told My Ballard that she uses 100% American wool sourced from Climate Beneficial ranches in Northern California.
A local artisan dyes the yarn using natural dyes, and Dennett is the designer.
“As a former architect, her years of technical design influenced her approach to the creation of these knitted garments inspired by modern art and architecture,” Command’s website reads.
“Given that there are no synthetic dyes or chemicals used in any point of our process from sheep to product, our clothes can be safely composted at the end of their hopefully very long lives,” Dennett told My Ballard.
“It is all very local,” Dennett said. “Even our first photoshoot was in Carkeek Park.”
Command Knitwear is only available online and can be made to order in Dennett’s Ballard studio.
