There’s a new tiny home village and safe RV parking lot in Interbay.
It’s called Salmon Bay Village and is located in the vacant lot at 3435 15th Ave. W just south of the Ballard Bridge.
The property owner has had various plans over the years to build apartments on the land, but the latest idea is for a 50,000-square-foot, two-story pickleball facility.
However, before the lot turns into a sports facility, the property owner is allowing the Low-Income Housing Institute (LIHI) to operate Salmon Bay Village for a few years.
“The goal of Salmon Bay Village is to enable vehicle residents to leave their deteriorating and unsafe RVs and to make a successful move into permanent housing,” Sharon Lee, LIHI Executive Director said in a statement about the village.
“We are grateful to Mayor Harrell and the Seattle City Council for approving $1.9 million in the city’s budget to implement an innovative solution for people experiencing homelessness.”
Salmon Bay Village, which accommodates from 40 to 50 residents, consists of 10 heated and insulated 8-foot by 12-foot tiny houses. There are also case manager offices, a community kitchen, hygiene facilities, and a laundry room.
Along with the houses, the site accommodates up to 30 RVs. There’s also a fence surrounding the village to ensure privacy and security for program participants.
LIHI staff are available on-site 24/7 to manage operations and ensure safety.
