Construction is in full swing on 15th Ave NW and the Ballard Bridge.
The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) says they’re extending the partial closure schedule on the Ballard Bridge to continue paving and maintenance work.
Construction on 15th Ave NW
On 15th Ave NW, construction crews are installing new sidewalks and roadway on the southeast corner of 15th Ave NW and NW 57th St.
SDOT says crews will continue work on the east side of 15th Ave NW between NW 57th St and NW 56th St. They’ll then work on the west side of 15th Ave NW between NW 57th St and NW Market St and to the east side of 15th Ave NW between NW 56th St and NW Market St.
Crews will be out Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Along with the above work on sidewalks and the roadway, they’re also upgrading ADA ramps and rebuilding street corners.
SDOT says to expect the following during construction:
- There will be two lanes open in each direction except from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. when there may be only one lane open in each direction.
- We will close NW 57th St and NW 56th St to traffic as needed from 14th Ave NW to 17th Ave NW.
- We will close the sidewalk in the areas where we’re working on 15th Ave NW between NW 58th St and NW 56th St. There will be detour signs in place to direct you around construction.
- You will hear noise, see dust, and feel vibrations during work hours.
- We will have construction staging and traffic control that may affect parking near work sites.
Construction on Ballard Bridge
SDOT has extended the partial bridge closures to reduce construction delays and complete the required maintenance. The overnight partial bridge closures are scheduled for Monday to Friday from 7 p.m. – 8 a.m.
Construction crews are doing paving, maintenance and preservation work to keep the 107-year-old bridge safe and strong, SDOT says. For the bridge work, SDOT is temporarily closing some lanes of traffic, moving a couple of bus stops, and closing one side of the pedestrian and bike path.
From SDOT:
If you are driving…
- 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. The bridge will operate normally, with two lanes open in both directions.
- 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.: We will close two driving lanes on the bridge, leaving one lane open in each direction.
- 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.: We will close the bridge to southbound traffic, leaving one lane open in the northbound direction. If you are driving southbound at this time, please take the Aurora Bridge.
- 5 a.m. – 6 a.m.: We will close two driving lanes on the bridge, leaving one lane open in each direction.
- 6 a.m. – 8 a.m.: We will close one driving lane on the bridge, leaving two southbound lanes open and one northbound lane open.
If you are riding south on the D Line bus…
- 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.: The bus stop at 15th Ave NW and Leary Way NW will be moved to the Route 40 bus stop on the south side of Leary Way NW where it intersects with 15th Ave NW. On the south end of the bridge, the D Line bus stop at 15th Ave W and W Emerson St will be moved south on 15th Ave NW. It will be right across from W Ruffner St.
- There are no changes to the D Line bus stops if you are riding north and all bus routes and stops return to normal outside of the 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. window.
- We encourage you to follow King County Metro’s service advisories and sign up for transit alerts to stay informed.
If you are walking, rolling, or biking…
- 7 p.m. – 6 a.m.: We will close the path on the east side of the bridge for people who walk, roll, or bike. If you are traveling across the bridge at this time, please use the path on the west side.
- If you are traveling south, please cross at Leary Way NW.
- If you are walking north, please use the stairs on the east side of 15th Ave W to cross under the bridge and get to the path on the west side. See map below.
- For anyone rolling or biking north, you can detour by taking the RapidRide D Line bus north from bus stop #14190 at 15th Ave W and W Emerson St.
SDOT will keep posting updates on the 15th Ave W/NW and Ballard Bridge Paving and Safety Project website.
