Crown Hill: Holman Road pedestrian bridge seismic retrofits underway

You may have noticed some construction on the Holman Road NW pedestrian bridge at 13th Ave NW: Crews are out working on seismic retrofitting on the bridge.

The Seattle Department of Transportation says they’ve closed the bridge to people walking, biking, and rolling during construction. SDOT has also closed the outermost lanes on Holman Rd NW next to the bridge to create space for crews working.

The construction started in late July, and they expect the work to take five to six months to complete. The bridge will remain closed the entire duration of construction, but SDOT says new street-level crossings have been constructed on both sides of the bridge to help people cross at 13th.

SDOT says to expect the following during construction:

• Work in the public right-of-way near your home or business 
• Temporary on-street parking restrictions, with “no park” signs placed 72 hours in advance
• Temporary sidewalk and crossing closures for people walking and rolling with detours
• Staged construction equipment and materials as well as noise, dust, and vibrations in the work area
• Typical weekday work hours of  7 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday  

Back in 2019, SDOT installed a new crosswalk underneath the bridge with a traffic signal. This is the first project on the bridge since then.
