Former Ballard High School student Jean Smart wins sixth Emmy

The former Ballard High student and prolific actress Jean Smart has just won her sixth Emmy.

Smart great up in Seattle and also attended the University of Washington. Her recent Emmy aware was her third win in the outstanding lead actress in a comedy series category for her role in the television show Hacks.

Smart, who has been acting for six decades, was also in Frasier, The Brady Bunch Movie, Watchmen, and Fargo. She’s 73 years old.

“I appreciate this because I just don’t get enough attention,” Smart joked in her acceptance speech.

Smart’s other Emmy awards were twice for Frasier in 2000 and 2001, Samantha Who? in 2008, and two other awards for Hacks (2021 and 2022). And in 2022, Smart earned a Hollywood star.

Smart graduated from Ballard High in 1969, and from UW in 1974. Ballard High School inducted her into its Wall of Recognition in 2000.
