Ballard Locks small lock remains closed as crews replace leaky gates

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is currently replacing one of the small locks gates at the Ballard Locks that was found to be leaking water into the Puget Sound.

Last week, the USACE found that a piece of timber had failed on one of the doors of the small locks western gate and that water was leaking into the Puget Sound. This week, they closed the small lock to carry out repairs.

The USACE says the gate replacement will take three to five days, and that boaters will have to use the large lock during the work. They say to expect delays of up to 45 minutes during the small lock closure.
