Shiku Sushi to change hands after 16 years

Shiku Sushi (5310 Ballard Ave NW) has changed hands, with a grand reopening party planned for this weekend.

The original owner Rob Kim opened Shiku in October 2008. He told My Ballard that he’s sold the restaurant to a longtime employee, Kayla Bigsby, who was serving as general manager.

“Kayla, most recently our GM, has loved Shiku and Ballard for a long time, and is excited to continue building on Shiku’s goodwill,” Kim wrote in his email. “It’s kind of bittersweet for me on a personal level, as Shiku is like my first child, but it’s in such great hands with Kayla, and I’m excited for her and it’s continued success.”

The restaurant will be closed for a couple of days so they can conduct some repairs and remodeling, but will reopen this Friday Nov. 8 with a celebration to mark the transition of owners.

The grand reopening will start at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 8, and the first 100 customers will be able to enter a raffle for a $200 Shiku gift card. They’ll also have free miso soup for all customers. On Saturday the 9th, they’ll be open 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will have discounts on sake, edamame, and crispy spicy tuna. Sunday the 10th they’ll take 10% off the bill for all customers.
