The scheduled closure for this weekend (Nov. 22-25) has been canceled because of the National Nordic Museum’s Julefest event.
After learning of the plans to close the bridge this weekend, the National Nordic Museum’s Sheila Stickel reached out to the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to request that they postpone the closure because of the impact it would have on the museum’s Julefest event on Nov. 22 – 24.
SDOT agreed to postpone the maintenance work. A representative from SDOT told My Ballard they were aware of Julefest and had originally expected that the bridge work would be wrapped up by now, but rain delays meant many canceled closures.
“We recognized the increased attendance at the event and, considering the potential impact on traffic and transit operations in the area, we made the decision to keep the bridge open for this weekend,” Mariam Ali from SDOT told My Ballard in an email.
Ali said they’re coordinating the remaining maintenance work on the Ballard Bridge and that they’ll share a new timeline for the closure once it’s finalized.
