There’s a new corner store at 1100 NW 54th St: Market off Market opened its doors a week ago in Ballard.
Ballardite Alex Garmendia is the owner of Market off Market, located on the ground floor of the Anker apartment building. Back in May, he told My Ballard that he planned on selling coffee, beer, wine, and grab-and-go snacks.
“We are finally open and eager to provide the best service possible to the community. Come by for coffee, beer, wine, soft serve, sandwiches, salads, pastries, snacks and more! And let us know what you would like to see on the shelf at your friendly neighborhood corner store,” Garmendia said.
“We really want it to be a place that serves the growing community around the Gilman park for the nearby residents and park users alike,” he said.
Garmendia, who moved to Ballard from the east side in 2017, has a background in restaurants. He used to work at the Salish Lodge and Spa and Taku, and says he’s done it all, from working as a dishwasher to barista to executive chef.
Market off Market is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
