The large supermarket chain H Mart is planning a new store in Ballard at 951 NW Ballard Way.
H Mart filed an application for a liquor license in the former New Seasons location, which closed back in 2019. Amazon had been planning a new “Amazon Market” store in that location—those plans never materialized.
The “H” in H Mart is named for the Korean phrase “han ah reum” meaning “one arm full of groceries.” It’s the largest chain of Asian supermarkets in the country, with 97 stores and counting. There are already a few locations in Seattle—in the U District, downtown, South Lake Union (called District H), and Capitol Hill (M2M Mart).
