Beast & Cleaver to open English pub and restaurant on Ballard Ave

Ballard’s popular butchery Beast & Cleaver is expanding into a new restaurant and pub in downtown Ballard called Little Beast.

Owner Kevin Smith, who opened the Beast & Cleaver butchery in 2019, announced his new venture on social media. Little Beast is moving into the former Ballard Pizza Co. location (5107 Ballard Ave NW). Ballard Pizza Co. moved just up the street last year after choosing to combine its Frelard and Ballard locations.

In his announcement, Smith said Little Beast will be an English pub, “reimagined through the lens of Beast & Cleaver. Classic English pub food done our way, using the best local WA ingredients, a selection of beers, cocktails, and of course whole animal butchery at the heart of everything,” he wrote.

Think Scotched eggs, sausage rolls, meat pies, Yorkshire puddings, and Sunday roasts. And of course, meat supplied from Beast & Cleaver.

The space will be more than just a pub: They’ll teach cooking and butchery classes, and it will also serve as a production facility for the original butcher shop.

Smith says a couple of long-term employees will be helping him open the new space, but that he’s also looking to put together a new team to run the pub.

No word yet on an opening date, but we’ll keep you posted.
