Construction continues on 24th Ave NW for Ballard Pump Station project

Crews working on the Ballard Pump Station and conveyance system are continuing construction along 24th Ave NW, NW 56th St, and 28th Ave NW as part of ongoing efforts to support tunneling operations for the Ship Canal Water Quality Project.

A work area is being established at the intersection of 24th Ave NW and NW 56th St, which will remain in place through spring 2027. During this time, one northbound and one southbound lane on 24th Ave NW will stay open to maintain traffic flow.

Residents and commuters should expect parking restrictions, intermittent road closures, and local access only in parts of 24th Ave NW, NW 56th St, and 28th Ave NW. Increased truck traffic, along with noise, dust, and vibration typical of large construction projects, is also anticipated.

Bicycle detours are in effect through the area. Northbound and southbound cyclists will share lanes with vehicles on 24th Ave NW through the work zone, or they can use a northbound detour via NW Vernon Pl, 20th Ave NW, and NW 58th St before reconnecting with 24th Ave NW. The detour will also remain in place until spring 2027.
