The Ballard High School student filmmakers have yet another reason to celebrate: two of the students’ films took home top prizes at recent international film festivals.
BHS digital filmmaking teacher Matt Lawrence tells My Ballard that Blood Cargo, directed by Brendan Hickey, Liv D’Arche, Ben Murphy, and Talin Phillips, won Film of the Year at the recent STARdance Film Festival in Los Angeles, a festival which had 380 total entries.
Another film, titled In the Wings, by Marley Rankin, Max Beaulieu & Emma Lee, won Best Short Fiction Film out of 125 entries at American University’s Discover the World of Communications Film Festival in Washington DC.
The films both premiered at the Ballard Film Festival in March — the next upcoming festival will be Saturday, June 15 at the BHS auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door; $5 for students and $10 for adults.
Another great story about BHS students. Keep up the good work kids! Lots of great things happening.
