Ballard’s small-format Target (1448 NW Market St) is getting ready to open its doors on November 10.
The new store is 27,000 square feet, and will sell many of the same items that the larger Target stores sell, but on a smaller scale.
They’ll have apparel, accessories, home decor, health and beauty products, grab-and-go groceries, fresh produce, and some alcohol. There will also be a CVS Pharmacy and order pick-up options, which means you can order items online and pick up in-store.
The small-format stores are becoming more common in cities — Ballard’s store is the third small Target in Seattle, and will employ 55.
Their grand opening will be on Sunday, Nov. 10, with doors opening at 8am, and free reusable bags for the first 1,000 customers. Regular store hours will be Monday to Friday, 7am to 9pm; Saturday 7am to 10pm; and Sunday, 7am to 9pm.
That place will be losing money from day one.
I’m amazed the Safeway across the street hasn’t shut down yet.

If those stores were losing money, they would have shut down long ago. Theft is so normal in retail that fiscal budgets include shrinkage predictions.
Maybe you’re amazed because your assumptions about theft are wrong.
I was in the Walgreen across the intersection a few weeks ago getting a passport photo taken when a couple people walked in, grabbed a bunch of beer and walked out. The employee taking my picture says it happens every day. He also said that people come in, jump over the counter, push the cashier out of the way and fill their backpacks with cigarettes and alcohol then run out.
I think it’s open now? Do you have a link to info on the grand opening event?
