The latest utility box art on Market Street just came to life yesterday, located near Swedish Hospital.
The artist is Sarah Simon, also known as The Mint Gardener. She won first place in the contest to wrap Market Street’s utility boxes, meaning there will be three total boxes adorned with her art. The other winning artist was Stevie Shao — check out her art here.
If you want to see the art in person, make your way down Market Street between 17th Ave NW and Ballard Ave to admire the boxes that have been wrapped so far.
The project originated from the Ballard Alliance and the Ballard Public Art Committee, who put the call out for artists last year. The wraps are made of heavy-duty vinyl, and consist of five panels, each of which must be digitally designed in order to be professionally printed on the vinyl, according to Visit Ballard.

I love these boxes. Art always brightens up the neighborhood.
BBB – I agree!!
So beautiful!! Utility boxes are slowly but surely being decorated with art in Bellingham, too! Such a great idea and simple way to beautify our towns and neighborhoods!
