BHS filmmakers secure 13 nominations for NW Emmy awards

A group of budding filmmakers from Ballard High School are up for over a dozen awards at this year’s Northwest Emmy Awards.

The Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has announced 13 BHS nominees for the Northwest High School Awards of Excellence. The winners will be announced at the Virtual 57th Annual Northwest Emmy Awards on June 6th.

The BHS film program, led by instructor Steven Bradford, has a regular appearance at the annual awards gala; this is the twelfth year Ballard High students have been nominated.

This year’s BHS nominations span eight categories, and include the following films:

Short-form Fiction ​

• One Minute to Midnight by James Brammer, Director/Producer/Writer; Claire Kilkenny, Producer; Jasper Swift, Producer

Short-form Non-Fiction

• FTM by Danny Edwards, Director and Fiona Paskoff, Producer

Long-form Non-Fiction

Instructor Bradford says that several of the nominated students are seniors, with many of them planning to attend some of the country’s most prestigious film schools such as Chapman, New York University, Emerson College and others.
