Golden Gardens Drive is reopening today after a four-month closure.
The road closed in June as part of SDOT’s Keep Moving Street program, intended to give residents more space to recreate near home. The department initiated the Keep Moving Street closures in partnership with Seattle Parks—Lake Washington Blvd, Green Lake Way, and Alki Point were also closed as part of the program. The Green Lake and Alki closures will remain for a while longer, while Lake Washington Bvld also reopens today.
Along with Keep Moving Streets, the Stay Healthy Streets program has closed 26 miles of city streets to thru-traffic to encourage outdoor recreation. SDOT says over 9,000 residents replied their online survey about the street closures—they expect to have 20 miles of permanent Stay Healthy Streets in place by next summer.
