Miami cafe Papá Changó to close in mid-January

The Miami-style cafe Papá Changó announced it will be closing up shop in mid-January.

Papá Changó (5410 22nd Ave NW) opened in Ballard in September 2021 when owner Sergio Garcia wanted to channel his Miami upbringing into a new venture.

“Although the business has been growing and it has been incredible to see all of the achievements Papá Changó has made, we have reached a point where we either need to grow the cafe or pursue other dreams,” Garcia shared on social media.

“We want to honor the incredibly loyal customer base that has poured into the shop to give us a try over the last year. What an amazing feeling to have created a place that people not only come to for a cup of coffee, but also a place where you could get a 97-square-foot cultural experience full of love,” the post read.

The post alluded to staying involved in the “coffee world”—we’ll keep you updated if we learn anything new.
