Back in September we wrote about Fresh Flours expanding from Phinney Ridge to Old Ballard. Well, the time has come for the boutique pastry shop to open their doors. This Saturday help them celebrate from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 5313 Ballard Ave NW. They’ll be giving out free cookies and all coffee drinks are just $1.

OOOooo! I know where I'll be headed after Walking Club!
I just walked by on my way to work, and their doors are open! I just bought a cherry almond scone, and it's delicious!
“Boutique pastry shop”? Does everything only come in little sizes and cost a lot?
goodluck to fresh flours, but the real locals are going to keep going to cugini.
enjoy!!
I know where I'll be crawling after Fight Club!
Mom? Is that you?
What's Cugini?
Everyone who works at Cugini is super, super, almost ridiculously nice, and the coffee is good enough, but the food always leaves much to be desired (both in selection and freshness). I always want to patronize them, but with Fiore just around the corner and Aster three blocks away, and now Fresh Flours across the street and Pauline hopefully returning someday (pretty please!), it's really hard to justify going in. :-(
Everybody should make a point to try something that Fresh Flours carries from Tokara Wagashi, the only ultra-traditional Japanese sweet maker of whom I'm aware in the Northwest. All of her sweets are made of permutations, in varying textures and consistencies, of a few simple but extremely high-quality ingredients (white bean, adzuki bean, rice flour, wheat flour, and occasionally seasonal flavors). Their consistency and sweetness can be an acquired taste for westerners, but eating one very slowly and savoring the subtlety of flavor (and the tangible quality of the ingredients — I really can't say enough about that) can be a revelatory experience!
Can't wait to try them out.
Doubt they'll win me over from 3 Girls, though. :-)
Did Costco go out of business?
I'm a fan of their store on Phinney and as the previous poster says they have stuff you won't find at any other pastry shop. Some of the Japanese influenced muffins and buns they do in house. If you haven't been, its worth a try. Ballard is the new Pastry Capital of the World!
Fresh Flours has the best quiche I have ever tasted.
i like cugini, but fresh baked goods beat brought in baked goods, any day
I stopped in yesterday afternoon for a cappuccino and had a mixed berry danish…both were delicious.
