Seattle Parks and Recreation announced that they will once again shorten the opening hours at Golden Gardens for the summer months.
The parks department’s decision is part of a second-phase pilot program to reduce “dangerous and/or illegal behavior typical of summer evening uses” at both Golden Gardens and Alki Beach. The new hours—4 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.—will start May 26 and last through Sept. 4. The park will return to its normal hours (open to 11:30 p.m.) on Sept. 5.
Seattle Parks has created an online survey to gauge public response to the pilot program.
The Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners will review public feedback and data from the pilot program in the fall to determine the best operating hours for the public in future years.
Parks staff and Seattle Police will begin closing down Golden Gardens at 10 p.m. to help clear it out by 10:30 p.m. once the new hours take effect.
