Monday started with snow on the ground, and after a sunny, brisk afternoon, hail started pelting Ballard during the evening commute.
The hail started falling around 5:30 p.m. and continued for a good half hour, putting on quite a show and blanketing the ground.
About a half inch covered the roadway and sidewalks in Central Ballard. Drivers took it easy and pedestrians looked for cover. And it’s not over: forecasters say “up to an inch” of snow may begin falling by Tuesday’s morning commute.
Update: UW’s Cliff Mass says a small shift in temperature in time for the morning could result in “substantial” snow in Seattle.
