Update: Seattle City Light says the recent outages in this area have been due to failed underground cable and transformers at different locations.
“This area is a complicated underground system where both main stem and local distribution failures have occurred. Aging equipment and rain/underground temperature changes may both be contributing factors,” SCL wrote in an email to My Ballard.
Original: A number of businesses and residences in Ballard have been losing power on and off since Sunday.
Seattle City Light* says the outages are due to equipment failures, but residents are getting frustrated at how long it’s been taking to be resolved.
Any Monaghan tells My Ballard that her home at 1530 NW Market St has lost power several times this summer.
“This is the third time we’ve lost power, the last time was for more than 12 hours and it was on a super warm day. We have a number of senior citizens in our building and a few with serious medical issues,” she wrote in an email.
Monaghan says she was unable to report her outage by calling SCL’s outage line, and that the outage map wasn’t showing her building’s outage status.
As of mid-morning on Monday, SCL’s outage map showed 194 customers without power, all of which are located between 15th Ave NW and 24th Ave NW along NW Market St. The estimated restoration time is 4 p.m.
My Ballard has contacted Seattle City Light and will update you with any new information about the outages.
